EyleaHD is a form of medication that treats diabetic retinopathy and wet AMD. This is a more concentrated form of Eylea, which has been approved for use and effectively utilized for several years. Comparatively, Eylea HD has 8 mg of medication per injection and Eylea contains 2 mg. EyleaHD may be better suited for those with severe diabetic damage or macular degeneration of the eyes, where other medications do not seem to be strong enough. If you have questions about the benefits of EyleaHD, contact the Retina Associates of Orange County. Our California EyleaHD specialist is happy to help. How EyleaHD Works
In cases where medication may not be enough to help treat diabetic or macular degeneration damage, EyleaHD could be a reliable choice. Eylea does not last as long as EyleaHD, so patients would not have to get injections quite as often. Most patients prefer to have a stronger dosage that they receive less frequently. Eylea works by blocking a protein called vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). When this protein is at high levels, it can cause abnormal blood vessels to grow within the eye and leak fluid. By blocking VEGF, it decreases the amount of fluid that leaks into the macula, which is a part of the retina responsible for central vision sharpness. Candidates For Treatment
Your doctor will examine, clean, and numb your eye prior to an EyleaHD injection. Inflammation has been reported after the use of this medication. But your doctor will talk to you about these potential side effects, what to expect, and whether this treatment is going to benefit you. Those who have infections around or within the eye, redness, pain, or are known to be allergic to ingredients in Eylea may not be candidates for this treatment. Side effects of receiving Eylea can include redness, pain, vitreous detachment, cataract, moving spots in vision field, vitreous floaters, and increased eye pressure. There may be some temporary vision changes after the injection, so do not drive or operate machinery until your vision has recovered fully.
