Desmond McGuire, M.D., received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the New York State / American Program at the Sackler School of Medicine in Tel-Aviv, Israel. There he was recognized as an “Outstanding Medical Student.” He completed his medical internship at St. Lukes-Roosevelt Hospital at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and was named “Intern of the Year.” Dr. McGuire completed his residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center in New York City where he was selected to be Chief Resident. In 2003 he completed a fellowship in vitreoretinal medicine and surgery at the University of California, San Diego, Shiley Eye Center. There he was named “Teacher of the Year.” Dr. McGuire is Board Certified and is currently serving as the Chief of Ophthalmology at Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana. Dr. McGuire has published numerous articles in several ophthalmologic journals and has lectured at various meetings. Recently, Alcon Laboratories awarded Dr. McGuire for his contributions in the development of their newest and most sophisticated vitreoretinal surgical system which is now used worldwide. Dr. McGuire sees patients
at both the Santa Ana and Newport Beach offices.
